When I saw the floating landmasses of (what seems to be) SvartALfheimr from the new Sword Art Online game Lost Song, I was minded of the floating continents in the original HDN (and in Re;Birth1 and U).
I wonder what an SAO-esque "Gamindustri Online" VRMMO might be like?
Considering every MMO I've ever played ended up being a case of where the *real* game doesn't even begin until you hit max level, and the majority of players seem to see quests as necessary evils in their real quest to obtain the best gear, no thanks. I prefer to be able to take my time and enjoy the whole game.
I think it would be a refreshing change in the genre. After all the HDN series tends to handle itself in a completely different way that makes the games more of a breath of fresh air. Admittedly took me awhile to get past the little bit of sexuality to realize that the game was more cute then I found the humour in it.
As an mmo it would be tricky and I do not think you could play any of the girls. It could probably run more like say SMT Imagine with how you interact with everyone but are a 'no one' nearly as people are concerned. Which can change as you progress through the story. That is the kicker though, this game probably would have the 'theme parks' as people call the quest hubs in it. It however would probably make fun/take the piss out of it instead. I also feel it would end up being heavier in the story department than some mmos have been.
It could work but would be risky and the biggest challenges would be keeping the same humour/atmosphere.
You cant talk mmos without discussing the combat system and the combat system in almost all mmos is BORING. Even more so than Neptunias usual combat system which is... okay. without that all you have is the linear story and its really hard to make an interesting story in mmos.
Here's the problem since growing your character is such a core part of MMOs you'll want the story to revolve around your character. The problem with that is obviously <Insert character name> cant be used in voice clips so nobody can refer to you by name and probably not by gender either. unless you want to lock all characters as female - which would piss off a sizable chunk of the audience for this pile of shit. Thing is I don't WANT to hear a story about a character I generated because I cant really make serious choices about their personality it would be WAY too hard to adapt the story to fix that. Then you'd have to put the CPUs in but for the most part they'd be sitting around in town on their asses making you do all the work (it is an mmo). and at the point they ask you to go kill a boss causing trouble instead of just doing it themselves I start begging someone to put me out of my misery.
This is a TERRIBLE idea which would only be a complete waste of resources on. MAYBE MAYBE you could make a multiplayer action rpg where you and maybe three of your friends use existing characters but even that would require a good developer and compile heart taking lead on the story.
Really I just don't see it working if PP is anything to go by in terms of the way they'll handle spin-off material (Tossing it to a shitty 3rd party developer with no understanding of the source material) then they should just cancel the lot of it.

I think I would skip over this title. I played Warframe, sampled Elsword and Aura Kingdom, and swore off all of these. Most MMO's usually make most of the greatest loot only obtainable via co-op raid boss anyway, and I can't stand this concept. Not to mention that most (if not all) MMO's are doomed to rot once they become unpopular. I like solo games far more. You can play at your own pace, and can enjoy the game without any limits or co-op related annoyances.
