The game that started it all. It's funny that CH didn't expect this franchise to be what it is today 2-3 years ago. This franchise was actually suppose to be a one shot lol. But anyways, I've played it and my thoughts is I liked the story compare to MK2 and Victory and the character development was also pretty good. The OST was pretty cool, especially the boss themes like Tough Guard.
Now for the downside. The battle system was slow as crap and pretty broken since you have to use the skip function for some bosses because you have to rely on the guard break to kill the boss before it kills you. As usual, the frame rate was pretty iffy. The item system can really troll you, even when you set it to 100%, well it really depends on the condition, but still. Getting to landmass to landmass was also pretty annoying since you had to go through this mini dungeon EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. Now getting the shares in this game is REALLY annoying and tedious since you have to do specific missions to raise the specific shares. Also, here's something that can f**k you over. If you keep getting Neptune killed, the "other" share will increase and you won't be able to get it back, meaning you might not be able to get the true ending or recruit all of the goddesses. Now don't get me started on the drop rate. Since the battles can be pretty slow and with the bad drop rates, it can take forever to finish some quests and since getting a high rank depends on how fast you finish the quest, it might take you forever to S rank it.
Overall, the game is alright for a first game in this franchise. If it wasn't for the characters and the character development and the story, I wouldn't have even been a fan of this franchise. In fact, this is the first HDN game I've played. If I were to recommend this, I would recommend it to those that want to know what HDN was like when it first started, the good story telling and character development the game had, and if you have the patience.
