So wait, let me get this straight. Neptunia needs to die because of its fanservice, its repetition, and the fact that it's a "shallow" attempt at a personified console war?
Western critics bashing Japanese franchises in a nutshell. That, and the points they gave out were from the first installment and that they think it applies to all the games as well. Completely oblivious to the fact that the sequels and spin-offs are vast improvements over the first.
And my response to that criticism is:
If they think that they can do a game based on the console wars that has done as well as the Neptunia series and its spinoffs have, I dare them to try. The fanservice, inside jokes, and repetition are well worth it. They could go deeper, but there's no need to address the full depth of the console war if the only purpose is fun. In my experience, the only criticism that's remotely valid is the shallowness, and even then only within the context of Neptunia U, Neptune vs Sega Hard Girls, and Megatagmension Blanc to a limited degree. All three of these games needed more content, but that's about it.
Old old thread, but for me its new. I bought Neptunia on a whim on GOG. It looked pleasing and some of the wiki lore fascinated me. I watch a lot of retro console youtube channels and was born in the era of early gen consoles. Fairchild, atari, intellivision, colecovision, etc. I may not have owned all the consoles but i certainly knew of them and the games and the CRASH. The anime was delightful bringing in some perspective about the crash vs the new gen. With newer and newer technology coming out I'd say Neptunia needs to delve deeper not just within the company franchise but the past and future. VR has barely been tapped into, to my knowledge learning AI and robots are still in their infancy, and hologram tech hadn't been exploited hardly at all.
I was recently emailing technical support about the Apple IOS Neptunia & Friends and how It wasn't registering news or purchases for me. Some parts of their sites seem derelict and I wonder if support is waning. I am sad the japanese version had more characters and maybe features.
It is a pity no daily schedule alerts. A pity no learning ai like some of these companion chat sites. Or more syncing of features in your phone to the app.
